Digital Data Service

Digital Data Service (DDS) is a managed service, with alarm surveillance on all equipment in the network and centralised bandwidth allocation. DDS is older technology and tends to be utilised by legacy applications which cannot be connected via Frame Relay or other more modern connections.

Note: Low speed DDS is unavailable to new connections.

High Speed DDS will be grandfathered to Level 3 on 30 December 2011.  This means that after this date no new end-users may obtain the product.  Existing end-users will be able to keep instances of the product they have; they can order more instances where equipment and capacity allow; and, they may keep the product if they move where equipment and capacity allow.

Key Benefits

Some of the benefits for service providers of offering DDS to end-users include:

  • Ability to provide flexible solutions for secure transmission of data between point, ideal for linking remote locations to a host computer
  • A wide range of bandwidths so DDS capacity can be upgraded as end-users' businesses grow
  • Lines are leased and specifically dedicated to a particular end-user
  • Added security with DDS redirection - circuits can be switched to an alternative site during an emergency or network construction
  • Proven technology with high levels of reliability
  • More protections with DDS diversity - acts as a back-up link to ensure uninterrupted service if a link fails.
